Rhymes with ..uck

Not puck, not duck, not muck, not suck.

That’s a pet peeve of mine: People who have been successful and don’t realize they’ve been lucky. That God may have blessed them; it wasn’t nothing you did. So don’t have an attitude.

No Mr. President, my success is not luck. Its not chance. Its certainly not happenstance. I call it rolling my sleeves, busting my ass, never quitting, always learning, and sacrificing time with my family and friends to ensure what I am killing myself for, is not for naught.

Not Zuck, not buck, not nuck, not tuck.

Number three: You have to go through life with more than just passion for change; you need a strategy. I’ll repeat that. I want you to have passion, but you have to have a strategy. Not just awareness, but action. Not just hashtags, but votes.

So now the contradiction. In first snippet above, my success is luck? Yet the advice you give the recent Howard University graduates … passion, strategy, action … oh, yes, and votes.

As I read this, heard you, understood you, those who have success cannot claim the work we endeavored, the effort we continue to apply to our own efforts. We are just … lucky.

Following that logic. For those who are not lucky, what discipline does an unlucky person acquire to gain and acquire luck? What skill set increases luck? What subject matter, assists in garnering luck?

You do not care about that. You just want their votes. Votes to your machine. A machine that values happenstance, coincidence and myth above applying ones self. A system that rewards inaction, good intentions and … whats the word? Oh luck.

Luck does not pay the bills.

Luck does not build businesses.

Luck does not increase wealth.

Luck has nothing to do with success.

Rely solely on luck, prepare to get fucked.

Please do not take my word for it, watch and hear it from the man himself:
