Day 11 366

Vole filled Owl Pellets

Took a family field trip to a bird refuge where they were show casing a couple owls. Thankfully we showed up early, it filled up quick with multitudes of families with itsy bitsy children. One of the fun activities, disecting owl pellets full of Vole’s. Vole’s, a small mouse like rodent with a life expectancy between 2-4 months. Thats if they are lucky enough to live to their natural death. Or I suppose, Owl food is part of their expectancy?

Fun fact of the day. Voles gestation is 3 weeks, they are able to start reproducing at 4 weeks after birth.

Between two pellets, a total of 5 skulls and enough bones extracted to nearly complete the Vole Skeleton outline.
